Not many insurers recognise the PPP, but some let you list performance upgrades.

Try Elephant.co.uk - they have a very comprehensive list of upgrades, e.g.: engine mod 5% power increase, Etc, Etc.

I had to go with Elephant, as they were the only people who didn't want millions of greenbacks for an STi spoiler on a MY04 WRX.

Cheers

I'm with Privilege. I have an MY03 Sti8 PPP. It was a bit of pain at first as they couldn't find the STi8 UK version but eventually they put me on to the underwriter and he sorted it. Originally they were quoting me £1500 when they thought the scoob was an import but when the realised it was a UK supplied vehicle the premium came down to £700 ish. Telling them I had the PPP (and listed what that entailed) did not increase the premium at all.

Hi there...

I do not recall the contact just now (I'm at work so I do not have the details to hand). I called L&V to insure a WRX PPP (new), for my wife (30, 4 years NCB) and myself (34, many years driving but no NCB as I have not had insurance in my own name for sometime since we have one car).

I got the quote first .... 890 odd with protected NCB...

Then spoke about the PPP and prodrive spoiler fitted ...

The lady on the end of the phone was ummming and arrrring at this point. I then suggested that I hold on the line while she talks to the managers etc. I waited a good 5 mins. She came back on the line and told be the following :

"We recognise what PPP is and we will cover it for no extra cost. In addition we have a policy not to charge for 'any' modification as long as no physical alteration to the engine size is made" ....

They offered to put this in writing on my policy documents .... They also advised me to make a log of any changes and ensure that pictures are taken ...

So I got thinking - how can they do this - and its obvious ...

They did not ask me (for example)

1) Is the car to be kept in a garage
2) Does the car have a tracker ?

When I stated the car had a tracker they told me it would make no difference to the policy since 'they have no way of entering in the fact that a tracker was fitted'....

Thus I would suggest that we (the scoobee drivers) are being subsidised by the lower power cheaper cars and perhaps older (or younger) careful drivers. It seems to me that you would not use L&V to insure say a VW Polo. If you did you might well be paying over the odds. Its those that pay over the odds at that end of the market who are, IMHO, helping me insure at a reasonble price given the type of car ,.!!

Hope this helps

Mark
