What does CAT D mean ( I know it has something to do with being written off ) and would insurance companies touch you?

Its the lowest grade write-off,usually cosmetic damage,just beyond economical repair.
Shouldnt be any probs insuring.

this also worried me, would an insurance company look at the car and de value it and to what extent?

also I know of a cat D car on the road that is also a CAT B and should have been crushed. nearly bought it until I decided to do a HPI check as I wasnt 1005 happy with the deal. lucky escape...

it was a dark blue W plate with just 32k miles ont clock and full Prodrive bodywork and performance upgrade, beware if ur looking at it.
