Sticky situation

I have a problem and need some advice...........
Lent my mum my car this morning. While she was out someone reversed into the side of her. She went home and checked out her insurance details and it turns out she wasn't insured due to being named driver on their policy, not the policyholder. Other guys car not damaged - mine has a dented door (shouldn't be too expensive to fix). Anybody been in a similar situation? What's the best course of action.
Cheers

pay for it yourself, and i think you will find that your mother can be prosecuted for driving without insurance with a fine. (not saying it wasnt an honest mistake)
If the other guy insists on going through the insurance there may be trouble ahead, even as its his fault.
i would say you should take your car to a garrage and get an estimate, if you can afford to get it done then do so.
Sorry if this wasnt the answer you were looking for.

You can most likely find a 2nd hand door for sale on Scoobynet for around the £50 mark, and get it sprayed for £100 (depends where you go and what model car...)
I'd not bother the insurance - the other guy's insurance could play you up something rotten, as they'll be looking for an excuse to not pay out. (They'll be shelling out the best part of £500 to fix your car + their admin expenses, not just 150ish )
Not saying it will happen, but it's not a risk I'd want to take.
(Oh and I'd hope Mum would help out with the cost - at £75 each, it suddenly sounds more reasonable, even though it's technically neither of your faults)

dont give up easily on this one /claim against the other guy and his insurance company/you are not required to give your insurance details / these only need to be disclosed when you are to blame for an accident (or of course if the boys in blue ask for them) / suggest you get 2 estimates and send them to him asap or to his insurance company if you have the details
best of luck

i would try a double bluff just saying it don't matter might arouse suspisions, give him a ring and say you can get it sorted for £50 (m8 got a door etc) and can you sort it out between yourselfs?

Its going to depend a lot on what his attitude is- if you suggest 'sorting it out between you'...etc etc he might relise that there is a problem with you insurance and force you into a hole. On the otherhand if he has an large excess or doesn't have protected no claims he might be very happy to settle without insurance companies being envolved.
