I've just been quoted a VERY reasonable price by L+V for my Sti7.
What worries me is that the didn't want to know about mods even though I pushed them on the subject, they didn't ask about where the car was parked, nor about annual mileage or what security the car had.
This strikes me as strange from an insurance company.
It seems they will insure anything that has 4 wheels and an engine as long as your over 30.
Has anybody ever claimed against L+V ? Do they pay up ?
Maybe I'm just looking for the cloud surrounding the silver lining.
Cheers, Ian.

a few months ago I was searching for a good deal and saw someone else ask this question, there were two replies, both people had put in cliams and had no problems with payouts, both were uncomplicated non-fault accidents but from what I read it seemed they (L&V) were both efficent and helpful, wish I was two years older!!!

I am always suspicious of that company!
A not entirely unrealated from MIG:

They may be cheap, but are they reliable?

I also have a friend who is insured with them. His car was orginally a 1.5d Corsa. They insured it thus with a new engine as 'engine mods'. Never asked to see an engineers report etc! He phoned them today to check, and they said they would replace like for like ie his car would always be replaced in its current state provided he has reciepts. He has 20k worth of reciepts. This is far from a 1.5 d (2.1ltr, 200+BHP). He is going to contact them tomorrow to get something in writing. Might be worth some Scoob owners doing the same. Surely they cannot be stupid enough to insure at the cost of a 1.5d corsa with engine mods and then cough up 20k should it be stolen or whatever!

trugoy, I'm 27 and they quoted me a reasonable price... (Which Greenlight matched, so hence I renewed with Greenlight ) All they said was, "take some photos so you've got proof of your mods".

I did wonder that myself.
Got my renewal through today from Keith Michaels for £1495 on an import MY95 WRX with HKS exhaust and induction kit. Pretty high but only a bit lower than last year despite moving to a much lower risk area.
Phoned a couple of others and got the price down to £1000 (or £1100 protected NCB) with A-Plan. Tried Schofields and they won't cover unless it is garaged (mine is driveway only) and fitted with a tracker. They were going to try their best to quote anyway.
Next up was L&V. They quoted £912, with a £350XS and protected NCB. I said "You haven't asked me about my mods"
"We're not interested"
"What about security or whether it's garaged or not?"
"Not interested in that either"
I thought they were taking the **** and told them so too. Nope. That price also includes Class 1 business use, 180 days European driving cover, courtesey car - which no insurer provides on an import.
Nice one!

I was just about to post the same thing. Renewed my STI7 and got £820 with Liv Vic, they confirmed hat they have changed their policy and no longer charge for mods. Great news as I am about to get a remap.

I obviously can't comment about how LV settle claims etc etc....tho I am sure that they will be fast and efficient as with their quotes system.
One thing I am curious about is how they intend to settle these claims where they have no idea what they are actually covering??!! More to the point how can they (as a company) put a rate on a vehicle that they aren't aware they are insuring...i.e. a highly modified Scoob where lets say the standard BHP is 276 and when modified the revised figure is lets say 340 bhp??? (or as already stated above??)
Maybe in the event of a claim they will settle on a market value basis for the car...and possibly ignore the mods (as, to be fair to them, they ignored them at quotation and inception time??!!)...???
Worth considering...and possibly worth sending them full details of the modifications (by recorded delivery) requesting confirmation that in the event of a claim they will settle including a market value figure for all the modifications listed??!!
Something to ponder on...............

Tom,
I asked just that question i.e "Are the mods covered by the insurance ?" The answer was that yes they were as long as you have proof they were fitted to the car. The woman suggested keeping the receipts for any mods plus taking photographs of the car with them on.
When I asked if a statement to this effect would appear on the schedule I was told no but that what I was told verbally was correct and that all their telephone conversations are recorded.
My bet is that they have taken a strategic descision that the value of extra policies they can sell will outway the value of any additional claims they receive due to modifications to the car.
After all how much more likely is a car to have an accident or be nicked because it has modifications the percentage increase is probably disproportionate to the extra custom they'll get with this policy.
This could be a stack them high sell them cheap strategy and if the evidence on this board is correct then it seems to be working.
I have to admit on the surface it seems to be a no-brainer £400 less than the nearest quote and covers everything the others do.
But your right, I'll be covering my **** with a written clarification all the same. Still £400 to write and post a letter isn't bad.
Cheers, Ian.

Glad I saw this post. It's all true they don't care about Mods, security, where the vehicles parked or occupation. £502.35 Fully Comp Protected NCD!! For a modded MY95WRX import

Slightly off topic, I take house insurance with L&V. Not only are they cheaper than most but their buildings and contents limits had unspecified values, up to soemthing silly like 1million rebuild, 125000 for contents.

They told me they won't insure anyone under the age of 25 on my car!
When flux will cover me for 500 quid. (grp 15 renault 19 valver)
thisll b my third years cover on it, clean licence etc etc.
Go figure...

I changed my insurance to Liv & Vic yesterday - I was paying £1250 & they wouldn't protect my NCB or let me have the wife as a named driver (I'm 31, she's 28)
Liv & Vic - wife as named driver, fully comp, protected NCB £619 - bargain!!

Just reading this as i am on the phone to Liv Vic, forcing the same argument about my mods.
I have substantial mods on my car, in excess of £10k and i am running approx 340+bhp on my UK Wagon.
They dont want to know about the mods and quoted my £850ish
I am now forcing that they make a note of every mod

Just run it past the underwriters, and it is ok. Ok because it is still a 2.0l turbo!!!
Just need to provide receipts for the mods if i want to be paid out for them!! And take photos to prove i had them on the car.
Not bothered about security or where the car is parked!!
£875 fully comp £300 excess, 9 years no claims protected, £18000 write off in Feb 2002, all mods forcefully recorded on their system, and read back to me, 350bhp.
Cant believe it!!

Just tried their quick quote for the missus and pleasantly surprised.
£270-298
'92 Civic Vtec 8YrNCD No Points 1 No Fault Claim No mods
When I phoned to arrange, curiously, they had no interest in where the car was kept, what security was fitted or any mods but the price shot up to over £400 (£30 dearer than esure).
I suggested that I could stick a Scoob on a council estate with no protection and that wouldn't affect the quote and they agreed, barmy.
Beware.
