tesco calculates the insurance based on percentage of total BHP increase over normal. Basically the exhaust is likely to push you into the first band of increase, so they will charge you for 'up to 10%' performance boost.

This means you can do as many drivetrain mods as you like so long as the performance boost is under the percentage figure you have stated. It is still a good idea to give em a list of your mods though, but most of the time they will just ask you for the bottom line BHP figure for all mods added together.

Just found this out too, they want an extra £200 ish just so I can put on an exhaust that will give a few extra horses. Only want it for the deep throaty sound. what if I just fit it anyway? will just have to change it sharpish if the car were to get written off! which shouldn't happen touch wood!

Thumbs down

The quote I got from Tesco's was £480 extra for mods than for the standard car.

Mods:
18 inch wheels
brembo front brake kit
Scoobysport Back Box
ITG Panel filter

Both Tesco and Privilege wanted to know the VALUE of the mods
