Question

Guys,

spoke to Tescoes today regarding insurance for my new STI. They informed me that if I write-off the car within first year I can have a new car BUT if it is stolen within first year then I will only receive the current agreed value.

IS THIS NORMAL, sounds like another rip-off to me!!

Andy,

Yep I only found out the other day, Tesco's, Direct Line and Elephant will only give you agreed value on the car. Im getting a new WRX shortly and elephant was way the best quote and the cheapest option is to get GAP (Guaranteed Asset Protection) insurance (costing me about £90) to cover any shortfall.

Cheers

Gary

Question

But in Tesco's terms and conditions

3. If within one year of its first registration as new in your name :
(a) Your car is lost by theft and not recovered, and is the subject of a claim under Section C, or
(b) Damage covered by the terms of this Policy is caused to your car to an extent greater than 60% of the manufacturer’s list price (inclusive of V.A.T.) at the time of such damage.
We will at your request and subject to the consent of any other interested party known to us, replace your car with a new car of the same make, model and specification if immediately available in the United Kingdom.
If a car of the same make, model and specification is not available, the most we will pay is the market value of your car at the time of loss or damage.
In such an event, we will become entitled to possession and ownership of your lost or damaged car .

You sure they're not confusing your STi with one not available immediately in the UK? Maybe this is true if e.g. Prodrive style, as UK allocation now sold out.

Would be interested to know as I'm about to (probably) use Tesco.

Well thats what I was told! But looking at your T's & C's you are correct - no difference between stolen and written off.

Pretty sure they understood this was a genuine UK dealer supplied car.

....I'll check with them.

Cheers

Tescos now tell me that both write off and theft covered for replacement in first year!!

Have asked for copy of policy to be put in post (just to be sure).

Anybody got anything good or bad to say about dealing with Tescos?
