i have just bought an alpine 7873r and a set of infinty 605CS speakers.
being clueless on the car stereo front,do i have to use the crossovers supplied with the speakers as my head unit has one built in,i was wondering this because i thought i might be able to just wire the tweeters and speakers straight off the current wiring,or will i get better sound from using what they supply.
i have made a 3/4 inch mdf spacer and fitted one of the speakers but it doesnt seem to sound much different from the original one
cheers

I fitted the exact same equipment about 4 weeks ago into the same year car.
I made 18mm MDF baffles for the midbass drivers but found they hit the door cards when in operation.
After making ad fitting 12mm baffles everything was fine.
Your'll need to use the passive x-overs supplied with the speakers. I fitted them inside the car to avoid ingress of water and any rattle problems. Doing this means running all new speaker cables, 1 going from the h/u to the x-over and then 2 new speaker cables into each door, one for the tweeter and 1 for the midbass driver. After fading the factory rear speakers out so they could only just be heard, the owner was well chuffed.

I've just got another job fitting the same equipment again into a MK1 MR2 whick means custom door builds, Also going into it is a 4 channel amp and 2 8's, 1 behind each seat meaning more custom builds plus an alarm.
