Default Kenwood KVT-729DVD Fault

Well, I decided to keep this system in the end and I'm glad I did as the headunit has a fault (I think).

Unit turns on, I can select various sources, ie. radio, cd and USB memory stick and all work fine. The unit also operates fine from the remote control. However, when I press the button to open the screen, the screen unfolds but then folds back straight away and will not stay open.

Here's a clip of what's going on;

YouTube - Kenwood KVT-729DVD (Fault)

At first I though it was due to the handbrake cable not being connected but then found that the previous owner has wired it into an earth point within the loom. So pretty sure that isn't the problem.

Spoken to the original seller but he's not been very happy , just said that he would speak to a repair shop for me, and that was Monday. Any help would be great, just hope the headunit isn't faulty.

Hi mate, It could be a ribbon fault. Every single Kenwood TV headunit I've owned has had this problem. The only way to determine wheather yours is at fault is to strip unit down!! I've repaired these in just under 1 hour & they're not too bad to do. Just a bit fiddly!!

Didn't really want to take it apart. Was hoping it's just a wiring problem.

Still no news from the original seller

You can email kenwood directly and ask them. Ive got the same unit and i emailed em with a query a few weeks ago, got a reply straight away and sorted me out. Just google kenwood electronics.
Doesnt sound like a wiring problem the screen should come out all the time.

Cheers, I think I'm stuck with it now so have no choice but to get it repaired and fitted in the Scoob. Will send Kenwood an email.

Yeah, the previous owner had made some sort of earth loop and connected the handbrake wire into that........

Will get some pics up later of the main iso loom and the extra wires added in.
