guys,
don't know whether anyone can help me, but...
there are a couple of files that MUST be left on the hard drive of the mstation- apparently all the mstation software stuff.
i have inadvertantly (and stupidly) managed to delete / damage these files. i'd apprecaite it if someone with an mstation could come to my rescue

Did n't think this was the case. The only file that's left on mine is the idx (index file), that once deleted is rebuilt when the station is plugged back in.
Are you referring to the bin file for firmware, and if so, is this the first time you are attempting to boot up the mstation in the car?

i had the mstation in the car and decided to re-organise it at the weekend- and have just been left with a couple of files that i can't delete. a format from dos should sort this out, but i wasn't sure if it needed any other files to function.
help appreciated- thanks.

Crumbs when i looked at mine last night, it had the index, a few other system type files, recycle bin and a 300mb swop file(!).
Does this mean i can delete all these files and leave nothing but mp3's on the drive?

Yep no problem, I'll do it tonight.
There is a website my-mstation.com (can't reach it at the mo) which has a firmware download. It's been unavailable for some time though.
Also tried mstation.cz but the firware page is unavailable as well (probably the same site link).

http://www.hotmp3gear.com/updates1.htm has an active link
I am presuming that this is legal given that it's only of use to people with an mstation!

Yes it looks ok. Strange thay 1.44 and 1.45 are unofficial, wheras I got 1.46 from www.my-mstation.com when the site was live.
Anyway, for those of you who requested it, the bin file should now be in your inbox.

Yes - Leave the index file there if you don't want the system to rebuild it.
Edited to say - one of the files is probably a .bin file. this is the firmware file, and you should have instructions in your handbook which tells you how to update it. You can safely delete this.
For info mine is running Firmware 1.46
