Default Bug eye Ice and Speaker Questions

Hi

just wanted to ask a couple of questions if thats ok

How easy is it to upgrade the speakers in a bug eye ? front and back i take it the Speakers in the back are in the door ..

What would be good upgrades for the existing speakers on a budget of about £100 ish ... would i get a component upgrade for that i have £50 movable budget on that also ..

i know you get what you pay for but didnt know if anyone had any recommendations ..

will i have to make speaker mounts to fit them also ?

i notice on the front door cards there seems to be two speaker grills one Top small one in the front door pocket large does this mean that the car already has Factory Componets

any info would be Greatly welcomed ..

cheers

Not too tricky to do the fronts. A few things to consider...

You currently have (very poor) components in the front, the tweeter is behind the little grill by the door handle. If you are keeping the current head unit, you would probably be wasting money spending £100 on components for the front. You would probably be better off spending about £30 on some 13cm coaxial speakers to replace the current larger driver.

If you want to look at upgrading the headunit in the future, and possibly adding an amp, then it would be worth putting some decent components in the front as a first step. You can easily fit 16.5cm ones in the front, there really are so many suggestions but the main consideration should be whether you are going to amp them up in the future. If not, and you are just looking to put a decent headunit in, then something like Infinity 6020cs can be picked up new on ebay for about £60.

If you are looking at adding an amp in future as well, then spending £100 on front components would be worrth it - loads of options such as Rainbow, JL, MB Quart, Infinity Kappa - try looking on here for options Talk Audio - Mobile Electronics Online Magazine

You will probably need to create MDF baffles to mount the speakers, not a big job.

If you do upgrade front speakers, also look to add sound deadening such as Dynamat Xtreme - it makes a big difference.

Regarding the rears - really don't bother, it hardly makes any difference and isn't worth the money. I did and I wish I hadn't bothered. Because of the space issues you can't out anything decent in there without a lot of work.

Best place to start is in the sticky thread at the top of this forum - some great guides and advice on there.

This is the top of a slippery slope!!!

As above really...

The options are endless and the only limits are your budget.

Withreards to the rear speakers. Get some replacement higher rated 10cm speakers rated between 80 and 110 watts should be more than fine. It's only for fill in as the front's do most of the work and lets face it.....that's where you sit so it makes sense to have the better quality up front.

As Escott said, dont forget the sound deadening. It makes a hell of a difference.
And it is on HELL of a slippery slope.

view my profile if you dont beleive me and I still havent finished!!

scooby51, that's some install - did you do it all yourself? Really impressed with the door pods and tweeter location - looks really professional and firing across the dash like that is supposed to be a good way of getting rid of tweeter harshness.

Lovin' the Morette's too, look great on a bug. Might be my next upgrade - well, after the Genesis Profile amp

Oh, ok - just seen the link. Those guys seem to know what they're doing!

Hiya.... I am having the same issues! Just replaced HU with a pioneer p9800BT. Now want to replace front comps and get a sub. Would a 4 channel amp be enough and what sort of watt do i need to be looking at? Hope you can help... Laura

Nice headunit.

Lots of good amps around, I went for a Genesis profile 4, new about £300, second hand under £100. You can then run front components and a sub from one amp.

Don't worry about getting the most power, go for the best unit. Genesis, Alpine's better range, DLS and others. Remember that if your headunit says 4x50w, then that is max power and it acutally means roughly 4x15w. Something like the Genesis says 4x50w (200w), and means it. You run the fronts from 2 channels at 2x50, and the sub from the other 2 channels bridged at something like 1-120w.

Lots of options here Car Audio Direct for car stereo, navigation and audiovisual electronics.
