Unhappy

Hi Guys,

a friend of mine took delivery of his sti5 yesterday.

Attempting to remove standard double din head unit today.

We've got the old one one out and wired new alpine one up, but there seems to be an issue with the wiring and the installed cobra alarm.

We found the permanent live etc with volt meter, but when we turn the car off its forgetting presets (hinting the perm live isnt really that perm) and also the alarm is setting off due to a voltage drop.

Any ideas?
any have similar probs?

Cool

Have you tried splicing it into the cigarette lighters perm live instead?

The perm may not be the perm? Some models (can't remember which) drop slowly over time, so appear to be permanent for a while after switching the ignition off. I'd check to see if there are any other wires that appear to be 12V as well. The drain that a multimeter has should be enough to watch it dropping - if it does, that is!

Hullo

Are you wiring up the stereo loom yourselves, or have you used an ISO-converter cable? Some (Autoleads particularly) often have the 12V permanent and 12V switched cables backwards in the converter. It would be worth checking the voltages on both of these cables, to make sure you've got the right ones cabled in. (Oh, and don't trust the colours either!)
