Quality headunit @ £200?
Trying to keep the price of my install to reasonable levels! So rather than cutting corners on something like wiring - which is a pain to upgrade, I thought I would buy a slightly cheaper headunit with a veiw to upgrading later.
So - what are the suggestions of the best sounding headunit around £200 mark. I don't need flashy lights or pointless features - just nice clean sound. 3 x pre-outs are a must, and WMA support would be nice.
Suggestions please?
Ian.

went through the same as you last year, also looked at the 9855 but absolutely did NOT get on with the slide bar function, also read on a few AV forums that the motorised face stopped working properly on quite a few of these units, confirmed this with a local dealer that had had loads returned. When the new ones came out alpine seemed to have realised they dropped a bollick with the very unpopular slide bar function and replaced it with proper working dedicated buttons like on the 9857r - that's why I bought one and have to say it's the dogs, no flashing lights, no pictures of swimming dolphins etc just the ID tag on screen (that can be turned off) and plays WMA too. Shop around and you can get a good price - a local dealer to me has this listed at £350 but we did a deal for cash and I got it for £230, if you don't ask you don't get.

I just want to provide the best sound I can.. I was looking at the £300 Becker unit (Grand Prix??) as a possibility. If I don't get something decent the £350 I spent on front components (in the january sales! meant to be £500!!!!!) will seem a bit of a waste.

made a bit of a gamble and gone for a JVC KD-SHX851. Supposed to be their range topping CD headunit, and got it for £250. Most places are selling it for £400+ and the JVC website has its price range between £600 - £700. So I'm hoping its a pretty damn good headunit!
