Alpine CDM 9807

Own one of the above and just wondered this.

Its a face off version, so can I buy a more recent Alpine model and just click the face on or do I need to install the whole unit again

Am I making any sense

The CDM-9807RB front will only work on the CDM-9807RB rear main unit.
