Bose stereo code override?

Bose stereo code override?
2001 Audi A6
Battery dead, so will have to disconnet to fit new one. Reading the manual it seems the Bose stereo will ask me for the code since power has been disconnected - trouble is one of the previous owners stored the card in a very safe place, as in not in the car when we bought it
Before Audi charge a fortune to press a few buttons mason style, does anyone know how to override the code and set a new one?
Or reccommend a place that will do it at non dealer prices?
