Wiring Harness questions before tomorrow's install
Guys,
My Pioneer P8600mp finally arrived. I've unboxed it and I'm now slightly concerned. I'm going to try and fit it tomorrow but I've never done a stereo install before.
I've got here the incartec version of the subaru harness adaptor, but unfortunately the bundle of wires coming out of the back of the pioneer are not in little friendly blocks, just unterminated wiring.
So my incartec wiring harness has a white connector at one end which has recessed pins in it. I'm guessing this is what I plug the existing wiring connection from the subaru into?
So that leaves me then with two smaller blocks, a black one and a brown one. Am I to assume that I take these unterminated wiring ends from the Pioneer and some how insert them into these wiring blocks? If so then how?
Am I missing some parts that would have made this task much easier.
I can provide pictures if anyone is suitably confused.

Sounds like your missing the ISO conectors from the end of the pioneer harness. (brown & black conectors)
you can.
1. Cut iso conectors off adaptor lead and crimp connect to pioneer lead(cheapest)
1. buy crimpable iso conectors to attach to your bare wires (next cheapest option)
2. Buy new pioneer to ISO harness (most expensive)

Cheers RobP. Makes sense now. I'll need to pop out tomorrow and get some supplies then. The pioneer harness has a battery + fuse and some other stuff attached to it. I imagine it wont be cheap to replace, but I'll nip along to halfords in the morning and see if they have anything.
The crimpable ISO connectors sound like a good idea. How difficult is it to fit them to the ends of the bare wires?
If I can't find those ends then I'll just go with the other option of splicing the wires together.

Its not too difficult to crimp the ISO conectors on. You can do it with a pair of pliars. you simply crimp each terminal on to the wires then insert the terminal into the empty ISO block. these should cost no more than £5.
you can buy the iso blocks prewired in halfords for £13 ish each wire is labeled as to conection then just buy some straight through crimps £2 for 20 in halfords and connect to wires on pioneer harness.
if you feel confident with the ISO pin set up then option one is neatest and cheapest if your not sure then go for option 2.
hope this helps

I'm ok with the wiring setup. It's all colour coded anyway, so I just have to match them up.
I'll either get some empty iso blocks, or just go for option 1 and get those straight through crimps.
Thanks again for the help.
Hopefully back tomorrow with the HU installed. Fingers crossed.

Guys, just a quick one. The black wire on the Pioneer harness has a grounding terminal attached to it. Should I snip that and just wire it up to the black wire on the Subaru harness adaptor?
And finally I have a blue wire eminating from the Subaru harness adaptor, but no blue wire on the Pioneer harness. Do I just ignore that?

NEver mind. I just went for it and its all installed and working.
The pocket isn't sitting right, or even sitting at all, so I'm going to have to rethink how to attach it.
But my wiring was spot on and the sound is good.
All I need to do now is install my sub, get some speakers for the front door and hook them up to an amp.
On second thoughts I'll maybe get someone else to do that.

I know this is a bit late but you did check that the wires attached to the pioneer unit weren't just plugged into the unit didn't you? Its just that i have recently installed a pioneer for a friend and the ISO just plugged directly into the unit. It came with a mass of wires sticking out of the back but they were already part of an ISO unit.

Cheers mate. The wires were attached to a small non-iso block. Infact one of the 2 iso blocks on the harness adaptor was bigger than it, never mind attempting to plug 2 of them into it.
ALSO! My radio reception was awful when I went for a drive. So I came home and did a swift search and that blue wire I mentioned earlier was the offender. I wired that into the switched 12v and that fixed it. The powered antenna wasn't turning itself on.
Very pleased with the 8600. It's a US model so there's no RDS, but I listen to the radio rarely. CD playback is good, even on the current speakers. I'll need to get the microphone out and activate the DSP to get everything properly configured, but that's a task for tomorrow.
