placing of sub
Hi,
I have a 10" sub in this box:
http://caraudiosecurity.com/catalog/...oducts_id+2931
(not the same sub, but the box looks identical)
Now, it's obviously going in the impreza, but how important is direction when it comes to placing the sub?
I currently have a bass 'tube' thingy in the boot, and I found that if I had it playing 'towards the rear' then the bass would be really fluttery, where as
if I turned it around so that it plays towards the front, the bass is much better.
How would you guys mount the box above? Can I place it in the middle of the boot, but towards the back seats, or will that sound really pants?
Or how about laying it on the boot floor, so that the speaker is pointing upwards (and also slants towards the front?)
My amp is already mounted on the back seat, so I don't know if I can position the sub exactly in the middle... real estate is at a premium, at the moment.

The differences you notice are most likely due to the phase of the sound, relative to the rest of the speakers in the system. If they are 'out of phase' then the sound from the sub, and the sound from the main speakers partially cancel each other out, making it sound, well, crap If you've got a phase control on the head unit and/or amp, then you can adjust for this, otherwise changing the position such as inverting the sub 180 degrees will effectively reverse the phase. In an ideal world, the sub would be as close to front as you can get it lol In reality it's not going to make much difference where in the boot it is.

i actually found with my bass box that side-on installlion on the left hand side of the boot worked best! might be worth a try, though i havent tried the box in my scooby yet.

not unless you hit a wall at a ton, and it ways a ton too, Its up to you, but perfi strip on to the rear shelf, or screw down to the floor if you want, just be careful where you drill, and prevent rust where you have drilled.
