Jenson amps/subs

This brand seems really cheap from Maplins. Is it the cheap crap that the price would indicate? I'd quite like to try bunging a sub in the boot but don't want to spend a stack of cash as I'm unsure how much difference subs make. I'd like to try a cheap "dip the toe in the water" approach (maybe )

Cheap it is.Their power ratings are a little exagerated, measured at 14.4 volts. But if you use a high sensitivity sub, like a Pioneer for example, you can get nice results. You should buy an amp that is too big for the sub you use though if you run a Jensen amp.If you get a Pioneer 12" sub with a 160 watt rms rating, use a Jensen amp that puts out around 250 watts rms at 4 ohms[not 2 ohms].They're rather weak.

Great homework Scooby Doc.I remember hearing somthing about that a while back but had no luck finding anything.Looks like they may get a boost in quality now.
$300 for anything Jensen is pretty steep.I'd have to let my ears decide on weather or not they're worth it.The comps look good on paper but...

Upa,
Thought I read somewhere that you had sold the JL subs. I'm getting a sony XM-255NX amp (rated 140W into 4ohm) fitted this week so looking for a suitable sub to go inside the spare wheel. Would one of yours fit the bill?.

Ended up spending a bit more than I intended but went for brand names I'd used before, namely a 12" Pioneer sub and a Sony XM250 amp. If anyone is brave enough to try Jensen, then Maplins seem to be giving them away.
