The Alpines are truely excellent and when I saw them I expected them to be around the £300 mark. They are heavy as well, the magnet in the back is nearly the same size as the speaker. Oh, and they can shift some air as well. The tweeters are also very well controlled, even when cranked. Seriously, try them, they are the business.
JBL ? I like JBL for big woofers but otherwise haven't really any experience of them.
Cheers

yeah,thanks for that ian
them alpines certainly look the business
i'm having my subs and amp installed saturday
i shall run it by my installer and see what he reckons.
only slight prob is that im going to be using a
kenwood 7251 2x200W amp to run them and i think the jbl or infinity may handle it
a bit better than the alpines but certainly worth considering
wot i'm really after is a good speaker that fits straight in with no
spacers,cutting etc etc . .
cheers again

Ignore power handling. If you put 50w continously through a 50w RMS rated speaker without an enclosure, my money says you'll destroy it.
What sort of music do you like, and how do you like your music played? Laid Back / Neutral / Lively or InYerFace?
The rating of a speaker is completely the wrong way to choose 'em .
Your speakers will make the most difference to the sound produced out of all components in the audio chain, so it's worth spending time listening to determine what style you like, then preferably what works well in your car.
