can't seem to find much enthusiasm for replacing the rear speakers
Infinity 4002i's in the rear are 4" speaker and they go in with no mods at all.
This is for the rear doors of a MY03 Impreza.
I am thinking of replacing my rear door speakers, I have been searching around for an answer to what fits.
I cant seem to find much enthusiasm for replacing the rear speakers, I would have thought any sound coming from the rear of the car would compete with the noise of the car, which mostly comes from the back end

Thanks for your reply
What sort of playing around, can you enlighten me.
Was it worth doing?
Do I have to get my welding gear and jack hammer out?

I didn't fit mine personally. I had a local car audio place do it.
I did attempt it but I soon realised that they weren't a straight swap as some of the guys on here had lead me to believe. I put everything back and left it to the professionals.
Some people have butchered the old speaker bracket to make it fit. My local car audio place used a mounting bracket suited for another car but I'm not sure which.
I had the fronts replaced with Infinity 6000cs. The front and rear sound much, much better.
I just need to replace the head unit now.

Thanks Steve g:
You don’t always know what to believe on here, I have read the same as you that the 4002i's are a straight swap.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The head unit makes a lot of difference, I would say that you will hear another 50% improvement in quality.
I have the Infinity 6000cs and a Sony head unit.
Just cant hear it much above 40mph, cos of the Zorst
I am still no further forward in knowing what to order, anybody else help please.!

It's pretty straight forward to remove the rear door card and have a nose around. Take a few measurements and ask a few car audio specialists if they know what will fit. I was happy to pay for the fitting to be done by someone else because I'm clueless when it comes to this sort of stuff.
Good luck with it.

1. Do not bother with rear speakers They just spoil sound - The music you listen to is in stereo after all. You are doing those fronts no justice at all - they're rated at 90W RMS and you're HU prob does about 20W RMS
2. Spend money instead on a 4 chanel amp that has a RMS output that roughly matches the RMS of you fronts and power them from this. (eg. 4 x 100W) - This will improve your sound 100x more than adding rears will.
3. Save up for a 8-12" sub and connect it to the other two outputs on the amp, bridged.

No 10cm speakers are a "straight swap" in a MY01+ ("new age") Impreza rear door.
The standard mounts are bespoke. I traced them on to 6mm plywood, screwed the new speakers into that, & screwed it into the doors. The 3 screws that are in the door are a totally non-standard spacing.
It wasn't a big job.... but probably not worth the hassle, as even good quality 10cm co-axial speakers are pretty crap, being mounted so low down.
Save the money & get better front speakers instead!
