Default Head unit power ratings

I have a new wrx and as we all know the stereo system is total pants!!

I was looking at splashing out on a nice simple head unit.. - probably a new Alpine.....

I was either gonna get the cda9831r or the cda9833r (they start at about £278 from mcs direct - or car audio direct)

Principle diff is that the 9833r is a 4*60 whereas the 9831 is a 4*50

Is the power quoted accurate - and what would it equate to in wrms terms - is it peak power and how does this compare to other head units - i.e. which one gives the most power with no distortion - I would consider h/units (well maybe not Sony)

Wanted to improve the sounds in the wifes car and only really want to run the 4 speakers off the head unit to begin with

Any suggestions for speakers that would run ok off this sort of h/unit - i.e. whats the most powerful/quality ones I could put in there?

Blimey surely this aint stumped people

a nice easy question

Its not a p*ss take but maybe I should know better - I've never really run speakers off er.........''gulp''........... head unit before..... in fact my Alpine 7969R (in my other Scoob) cant run speakers as it has no internal amp.. better for sound quality!!
