Hello Peeps
I have just bought two Infinity Perfect 12 VQ subs and I am planning on running them of an Alpine MRV-F407 bridged into two channels (120w rms). I was in my local car audio shop and told the guy behing the counter what I was doing and he said that the amp has not got enough power to run the subs properly. He then tried to sell me 2 genesis extreme amps at £800 quid each???
Is he right or is he trying to make a quick buck or two???
Thanks in advance
Martin

The P12s are very nice subs and benefit from being driven well, but the amp you've got ain't too shabby. Just be careful with gains and volume controls as you don't want to give them a clipped signal.
Sometime in the future it may be worth upgrading the amp to something a little ballsier, but I wouldnt' worry about it too much.

Thanks Chiark
Knew you would come up with the goods agian
Yeah was planning on experimenting with the gains, ie turn the volume on the head unit to 3/4 and turn up the gain until clipping then turn it back slightly??? good plan??
Thanks again

Spot on. Make sure you listen to the sub directly, not with the boot closed or anything like that as you can hide quite a lot of distortion easily in a boot. I speak from experience here :red:

depending on how you wire them up etc the amp will see a different OHM load. Thats the important bit..not whats written on the sticker.!!
But for that Nick or others need to answer!!

I doubt the amp would be powerful enough but to spend £1600 on amps is a little ridiculous
A £600 Genesis miniblock giving about 320wrms could run the subs I guess - I'm convinced that Genesis WRMS are much higher in actuality than the quoted figure - well my Genesis amps certainly give a lot more power than the quotes figures

I am planning in running the alpine in two channel mode. One channnel for each sub. So the amp will only be seeing a 4 ohm load per channel. Would have been easier if they were dual voice coil then I would have put them into a 2 ohm load.
Thanks again
