Doing it on the Cheap!
#1
I've got an Alpine HU currently running through standard speakers, which, unsurprisingly ahve started farting a lot as I'm putting quite a lot more power through them than they're designed for!
Should mention this is a 95 Leggy GT
In the future, I plan on putting components front and rear, but at the moment do not have the cash, so I want to replace Front and Rear speakers with cheap stuff as a stop gap, so I guess I'm looking for some 5" front coax, and 4" rear coax. Hoping to spend <£100.
Any suggestions??
Happy to trawl eBay, but the decent stuff always seems a few quid over my range!

For the kind of money that you're talking about, I would definitely go for Pioneer - they'll give you a much higher quality sound that similar Kenwood, Clarion or Sony. I absolutely love 'em.
For 5" fronts, you could go for the nice 'E' series - TSE-1375 2-ways for £69.99. I would then fade the speakers to the front a little and fit the cheaper 'G' series in the back (as you won't have much of your £100 left and these are the smaller speakers anyway). TS-G1016 dual-cones are just £21.99 in Halfords.
Of course, if you get them from somewhere cheaper than Halfords, you could probably afford the 'E' series in the back as well.
I've got the TSE-1375 front and rear in my Mini. To be honest, they are backed up by 2 shocking subs so I don't run any bass through them ... but they give me better quality mid/treble than I've managed to find anywhere else on a budget.

Go along with that - I used the 5 1/4" E series as a "stop gap" in the back doors of my 02WRX before putting components in the rear shelf. They did seem to be the best co-axials for the money at the time I did auditions.
BUT
I have seen things like the infinity 605cs or other decent component systems going for £80 to £90. IMHO buy them if you can fit them, and fade the head unit so they do the work. If you want to put £20 dual cone jobbies in the back too, that will help a bit, but the real SQ comes from the front speakers.
