Question

Hi folks,
I'm shortly going to fit this:

into this:

Which is fitted with this:

Firstly, I was thinking of putting the bluetooth gubbins in the centre console forward of the gear lever, and the mic on the a pillar, any hints on where to put the speaker?
And has anyone had any problems muting a Sony head from a Sony/Eric Bluetooth kit?

Secondly, the head unit seems unnaturally bright at night, is this usually a problem or is there any way to rig it up to the bright switch to make it a wee bit dimmer at night?

Cheers
Dave

Most bright units take a feed off the ISO which is a dimming feed (goes to +12v when the lights are on)

Check your manual to see if it needs enabling in a menu or something...

Cheers Chiark,
Shouldn't be too difficult to figure out which wire is which.

As it happens I found a particularly helpful site re the Bluetooth kit here, should anyone else need it.

Suppose I might as well run some amp pre-out cables as well whilst I've got the dash in bits.

Good question, I have the regular kit and have been pondering where to stick the speaker... where do others have theirs?

Thumbs up

i put my kit under the center console and took the power supply from the electric mirror supply running just the mute lead to the stereo.
My speaker is mounted under the glove box and the controls come out just below the mirror switch through one of the blanks.

Cheers Blitzed,
Any issues with leg/knee clearance with the speaker where it is?
Was thinking of putting it under the drivers seat next to the CD changer.

Fit a radio mute lead, about £20 from Senic car audio.

Very easy to fit an the phone audio comes out through the ICE speakers, better sound than the speaker shipped with the car kits.

Mute kit will only work if you are not using an external amp if I am not mistaken? Else I would definitely go for that idea. If there is one you can use that will operate with an external amp feed then I'd like to know where to get one aand how much it would be.

I've got an external amp and the Ericcson Bluetooth kit. The shop which installed it used a relay to do the trick. Works fine here. Audio Designs in Surbiton if it helps.

Got my kit in Singapore for £100, I think they're closer to £140 here(at least they were when I was buying).

Fitted the kit the other day, very impressed with sound quality etc..

Only one minor niggle, when wired correctly, the kit stays active for an hour after engine switch off to enable calls to be carried on, I thought this might cause problems if the unit is activated when the alarm is armed (triggered alarm due to voltage drop) so wired it to be 'switched only' (didn't have time to test my theory).

It's a simple matter to switch over the power supplies but has anyone had any problems with erroneous alarms due to the kit being activated????

Cheers
Dave

Oh and I love the cool blue glow of the controller, might have to go for blue dials to match now!
