I have just taken my STi in for its 1000 mile service and asked about getting sat nav fitted. The dealership handed me some brochures and said they range from £800 - £3000 and choose the one I wanted and come back to him for a price.
To be honest I know nothing about sat nav having never had it. Has anyone got any advice on which one to get?
Thanks
Charlie

if you want it permanently fitted e.g. vdo dayton your are looking about £1500
If you want to take it between cars (a bit measy with cables) then you need something a garmin streetpilot III £900
or the setup I have
An Ipaq £200 on ebay
A GPS jacket £215 from Amazon
TOM TOM navigator 2 £115

Depends what you want from it.
A proper, plumbed-in system will cost a fair ammount of money but will look good, work well and they'll be no trailing wires, ciggie skt adaptors etc.
However.... If you already have a road angel, you can buy a pocket PC and a copy of TomTom navigator software and use the road angel as a GPS, to drive the pocket PC. This gives a great satnav solution with full voice commands.
Road angel £390
HP 2210 £360
TomTom software £100
Cables/cradle £60
Total £910 ish
Another alternative is a stand-alone unit such as the Garmin Navman solution which I think is about £950 (??)
I've been delighted with the performance of my road angel /tomtom solution, it gives full colour, moving 3D map with voice commands whilst the road angel gives camera alerts etc, but it can be a bit of a mess with all the trailing wires/adaptors/cradle etc.
Cheers,
chris.

Or get A clarion NSV613. They're about 840 quid and come with a 6 inch fold out screen and single DIN fitting.
You'll also need the Clarion single DIN fitting kit(BKB-049)
You can then use the gauge pod case(Subaru part H0010FE920OE) to mount them in the top of the dash like this

Thanks for the advice guys, I am probably looking to spend about £1500.00. I have been given Pioneer and Alpine brochures and intended getting it fitted at the dealership as I figured this would be less hassle and being female would not trust myself with things electric.
Is there much difference other than in price between Clarion, Pioneer and Alpine?
Like the look of yours Neil looks really good but would probably get one that fits in the space where my my CD player is.
Cheers

What usually happens is that the dealer will use a local installer to fit this kind of thing. I asked who they used and went to them direct. I think it cost me about £100 for fitting.
I thought about having it lower down, but it's a lot safer to have it at eye level rather than having to keep looking down at the map.

Sorry to hijack.
Pockman,
I have a Road Angel, Toshiba e740 with Tom Tom (1) and connecting cables but cannot get the PDA and RA to talk to each other.
Did you just connect and it worked or did you need to set it up somehow. I have got GPS turned on on the RA and have set the right GPS device on TOm Tom.
Any help would be appreciated.
