Picked up and fitted my door builds yesterday from Maximum Impact in Leeds.
In a word - gobsmacked. I would not have had the patience to get them looking this good
A picture diary :
Stage one - door cards split apart, MDF rings made, surfaces primed and filler applied, smoothed, contact adhesive applied, vinyl started...
Stage 2 - A vinyl'd bottom section
Stage 3 - Reassembled
(straight on - no flash)
(angled view - flash - shows angles)
Finally - in the car!
(pic of door after sound deadening missing - used 5 sheets of Noisekiller barrier mat per door. Works brilliantly)
Initial listening suggests that this is pretty good image-wise. The passenger speakers are more on-axis and are pulling the image nicely left to counter the closeness of the driver's side - possibly a little too much believe it or not! Nothing that a little playing with setup won't iron out.
Very impressed with the quality of work, much better than I'd hoped for!
Cheers,
Nick.

That is indeed most impressive. The looks are much better than standard, regardless of the improved sound quality. May I ask about the cost?
Also, you mention the sound deadening. Where on the door did you apply it?
cheers

Steve,
Sound deadening goes on the outer skin of the door to make most difference, plus I've put quite a bit on the inner skin too, and have got rid of the plastic membrane which just rattles. The membrane notionally protects from water, but as the cards are plastic, I couldn't see the point...
Price - speak to Max on 0113 2441448. I can't be seen to advertise as I'm a moderator, but it was a very fair price given the amount of work that went into 'em.
Cheers,
Nick.

Rears? Nothing at the moment. Nothing is really needed as there's quite a bit of ambience without them.
I might not change them at all.
Depends how much work it is to drop a set of 5s into the doors just to give "something" there for the rear passengers.

CDTAudio HD62dts - 6.5" midbass and the "deluxe" tweeter, which I think is an inch and a half. Think I've got a speaker out of phase, so off to play in the garage again
...much to the disgust of my wife
Cheers,
Nick.

That looks v. imprezzive now
What did you clean the inside of the doors with to apply the barrier mat to? You mentioned you put in a few layers, how does this compare to Dynamat Extreme?

It's a new tweeter position. Images better than stock because you're not as close to the nearest tweeter.
The flash accentuates the red, they're not inyerface in reality.

Now the filler dust and adhesive fumes have cleared, I'm looking forward to getting your car in for some electrical work. I hope 'er indoors isn't complaining about you tinkering with yet another car!
See you at the end of the week.

LOL, she's just complaining about me playing with the car rather than sitting watching telly with 'er. Wimmin
Put the EQ in today, and that's helped sort out the level matching to the amp. Stunningly impressed.

Glad you mentioned the Alpine demo car i saw that a couple of weeks ago at Brands Hatch Champ car/Touring car meet it was in a terrible state covered in dust and looked like it had not been cleaned since it was new!! At this event the car was locked apart from the boot being open so did not get a chance to see ICE install in car, however the boot was open to display the dust.
I find it very strange that a company like Alpine would spend all this money to demonstrate it products in such a poor fashion and can only demonstrate that they dont care about presentation.IMHO
