Anyone know of any programs that enable to create your own movies/graphics for the Kenwood Z-838W headunit ? Or any good download sites ?

Thanks

I'm writing software to do just that (well, actually for the PSW9524). You can download from a site on the net (forgotten the URL, see the manual) or download a tool from Kenwood USA - but this doesn't work with the 9524. might do with the 838 as that's a US unit too...

Download from here : http://www.kenwoodusa.com/register/oel_software.jsp

Let us know how you get on

Thumbs up

Oooh, cool Thanks Nick. My headunit is on its way soon, but the stanadrd graphics on it look pretty pants so I thought I'd get some personalised ones prepared

Don't suppose you want to include compatibility for the '3 colour 4 tone' poor relations in your software ?

Yep, I think I've found the flag that sets between 2 bitplanes and 4 bitplanes, so that isn't a problem

The only thing I've got left to work out is a seemingly random number in a two byte field. Can't see a relationship between that and other things - it could be loop start offset, but it might not be. Everything else (size, number of frames, animation/multi-frame still image/colour depth/frame pause) is OK but those last two mystery bytes are bugging me.

I'll look at it again sometime...

Nick.

Lightbulb

Just a thought Nick, those 2 bytes, 1DIN(176x32) or 2DIN(256x64) ?

Probly not, but keen to see it finshed

Nope, that's merely stored in the size of the bitmap. It seems to be something to do with animation... Will have a look again and work it out. I don't think it'll hurt to zero them out as lots of things are zero and work.
