Well put the other halfs car in to get the ICE installed prior to putting my STi8 in so that she could be the guinee pig. Well suprise the front speakers we had chosen (DLS) were too deep, so in the end we went for a set of Genesis Audiophile 17cm using Vauxhall Cavalier spacers. I dont see how they have changed the doors from the bug eye to the new model?

I don't think they have, but I'm unsure. Nice choice of speakers, BTW.

As the 03 WRX stands, there's only around 3cm of depth from the rim of the hole to the window. You can also build out with 18mm mdf and not hit the door card, giving you around 50mm depth + a little more if you're feeling brave.

My CDT speakers are 7cm deep, and are a right pig so are going in a door build.

I think it entirely depends on not just the depth but on the shape of the basket too. as even some relativly shallow speakers wouldnt fit becuase of the shape of the magnet.

Pot luck really. And I think a lot depends on the people installing the speakers and what they are willing too do.

As posted on another thread, Phoenix Gold Tantrum 6" Components fitted the front of my MY03 WRX with no issues, just use a 18mm MDF spacer.

I was looking at the Genesis P16s. Do you know if the depth of the Genesis range are similar?

Also, how would you describe the acoustics of the audiophile speakers - e.g. bass, mid, treble etc..

Thx

The genesis P16 are the profile range. The workshop said they wouldnt fit but im thinking they were lacking in the ***** to have a good go.

The profile P16 are amazing for the price. It is a toss up between those and the Focal Access 165a for the sub £150 bracket best buy IMHO. If you get them fitted post the details and I will see if the installer will have another go in mine.

cheers

Nigel, I have only been in my other half's car a couple of times since we got it back and the sound is excellent. The speakers are powered by the new Alpine CDA-7894R CD/MP3 head unit which is 4x65w so no need for an Amp. The Genesis speakers up front are great level of bass and the tweater is nice and clear we have the DLS in the back but not really heard them as I have not ventured into the back seat yet for a listen.

I will be getting my car done next wednesday with the same speakers but I will be powering them with my Pioneer 4x130w Class A Amp and Pioneer DEX-P9R Head unit.

I will get Cabling run so I can hook up a sub at a later date if I want to.

Thx for the reply - I have the same Alpine h/unit, just can't decide on speakers and whether I'm going to attempt dynamatting/X-over fitting myself!!

Good to know the Genesis sound nice with the unamped h/unit

do you think it will be possible to fit Infinity 6500cs speakers into a 03wrx, they have a mounting depth of 63mm or should i change my order to 6000cs which have 53mm ?

cheers
