Question

Right, I've finally bit the bullet and bought a newer Scoob (from an MY95 5dr to a 4dr MY99)

It's got Infinity components in front and back (!) and a rather nice Sony CD H/U (The flipdown/dual screen model - not in silver though - any ideas what it's called?)

I've got a 12" Kenwood Sub and JBL amp that I'm putting in the new mota. Previously, I had a (big) box in the boot.

Wifey now sez "Oi, NO!!!!!" So, I was going to install it in the spare wheel (using the boot as the "cubic space" - not ideal but better than a kick in the nads....

Any ideas on how to fit it into the spare wheel - was thinking of MDF and some type of harnessing device (just to stop the speaker from moving - obviously the wheel will be bolted into the space, but how to attach the sub/mdf surround to the wheel.....)

Answers on a post card..... or any more sensible suggestions!!!

Ta in advance,

Dan

You won't get much volume (as in cubic feet, or litres) inside the spare wheel - your 12" will be stifled badly... You could lose the spare wheel and use the well, which might just work. Fibreglass is the way to go...

Thumbs up

Thanks Chiark,

I kinda suspected that there wouldn't be much cubic space..... hmm...

might have to bite the bullet and get a flush (to the back seat) box..... minimize the loss of boot space...

Cheers though,

Dan

Just what I've done, although I'm now struggling with a different challenge. The 15" sub wants 4 cu.ft, which is quite a bit, really... I think it's going on the passenger side of the boot, moulded to the outside. There's a strut there, but I think I can build around it...

to be honest it depends on make of sub and how space hungry they are, you can get some big subs that use sweet fa space. Directed top of the range ones are good for small spaces as are some rockfords, though neither are very good if youre wanting something serious.

For your run of the mill job id try a directed 12, they dont need much air, well that or mount the sub inversely.
