Question

Hi
What is an MDF Collar...it sounds like a buffer between speaker and car, to stop speaker vibrating against car body...?

What is a crossover...? Why is it a good/bad thing? Would my MY02STi come standard with crossovers? I'm not an audiophile, but the audio in this car is horrendous!

MDF is medium density fibreboard, which is useful for all sorts of things. (Just watch changing rooms )

A collar of it is needed to push the speakers forward a bit allowing the window to close behind.

A crossover splits one full-range (lows and highs) signal into two or more signals (one low output, one high output) which in turn go to speakers dedicated to reproducing those ranges. Low notes need a lot of air shifting to be reproduced, high notes need a little bit of air shifting fast, so big speakers for low notes, small light speakers for high notes.

Oversimplification, but it makes the point

Have a look at the faq that I'm writing.

Nick.

Oh, and the great news is that the factory fit audio is really horrendous and you don't need to spend much to get it sounding massively better
