Given a budget of £200-250, which CD tuner would you recommend to replace the old std tape unit? Will the standard Subaru speakers be up to the job?

Cheers

Given you're budget, I'd go for a Sony CDXM630 @ £185.00 or an Alpine CDM7874RB @ £173.37

When spending this sort of money on a quality head unit, it's important to upgrade the speakers to hear the benifits of the much better head unit. Sticking with the factory speakerswill give minimal improvment.

Have a look at Infinitys 605CSE @ £79.19

Thanks! Anybody know if CD w/ MP3 units are available in that price range?
How easy are new units and speakers to fit? Anybody provide this service with me supplying the parts?

T77,

The said speakers consist of 2 mid-bass drivers, 2 tweeters and 2 passive crossovers. They can be fitted wherever you like. The door cards will certainly have to come off if you want them fitted in the front of the car.
There's lots of posts on here about these speakers and others, fitting and otherwise so have a look around.

I think I've settled for an Alpine 7893R in the end ... will get that in and then think about speakers.

Cheers!
