I have a JDM STi7 with the standard double-DIN MD/CD unit. (Note that this is different to the UK spec or the MY01). Does anyone know if it has RCA pre-outs and if so, whether it has both front and rear?

(PS tried the search and couldn't find anything on the JDM spec one...)

(PPS I know that the quality may be crap, but it fits well, and I have lots of MDs and not enough cash to buy another head unit!)

Almost 100% certain there are no pre outs, new headunit for you then.
Cheers
Daz.

BRR, its very easy to get the unit out and take a look.
Lever off the silver surround, best to remove the cup holder and lever it from behind there, the whole silver surround/heater controls come out as one piece.
Then 6 phillips screws to remove the outer cage, thats about it really.

Thanks for that... took it out and had a look - only has a 14 pin connector (with high level speaker outputs etc) and a changer output (13 pin DIN).

My amp has high level inputs, so I guess I'll just use those in the meantime - it should mean that the head unit to speaker cables are less succeptable to noise anyway...

I'm having looooads of trouble trying to get my car ice to run without alternator whine, had to give up and take it to a VSIB registered shop where they reckon they can cure the noise, at the cost of a full re-wire and re-route of all the cabling.

Big Goon.

The problem may not be the stereo wiring.
