Cool

Dearest All,
Has anyone brought any products from EmpireDirect? I’m looking at buying an in-car stereo as they have some good deals. Anyone know of anything good/bad or any suggestions for other places to buy in-car stereos.
All The Best.
Ian.

The Empire store in Leeds had a questionable attitude to customer service. Ended up walking out. Though I could have had a bad experience with a member of staff having a bad day. But when you're spending 1k upwards on a telly you hope for some level of service/information.

I bought a head unit from Empire Direct a year or so ago, it turned up next day as they promised, at a price which undercut everyone else, had no problems at all.

Sunday 14/07/02 - Ordered a washing machine. Paid ED £500.

Monday 15/7/02 -Enquired about delivery and was told following Thursday(25/07/02).

Tuesday 23/07/02 - Rang to check delivery(buyer for old washing machine keen to remove it), told none in stock would order that day and be with us in 10-14 days. Given Manufacturer order no. Why they did n't know this the previous Monday is beyoond me.

Rang Manufacturer to check delivery, told as new model, unlikely before September.

Rang ED to cancel order, expressed disgust that they did n't tell us how long it would "really" be. Sent mail to Customer service asking for refund confirmation.

Friday - no reply to email so checked credit card coy, no refund.

Today - no reply to email so checked credit card coy, no refund. Rang ED, who say refund should be authorised today and be on my card in 3-4 days. Chased email stating my contempt for their service and that I shall never use them again.

End of story.

I won't be using them again.

I had a terrible time with them at Christmas. I bought a TV and Video for £760 in December, for which they docked my credit card straight away.

Video turned up after a week, but no telly. Phoned them, and they said there had been a fire at the Panasonic factory and the TV would be delayed. To cut a long one short, it took them 2 months to get the TV to me, and they never contacted me once to tell me what was happening.

I kept having to ring them, and they would say "yes, it will be with you on Tuesday". I would take a day off work and wait in, and it wouldn't turn up. I rang them at least 20 times, and said all I wanted was a phone call to keep me informed. They NEVER did.

Ended up with my credit card company chasing them, OFT etc etc. I even emailed the director of customer services..guess what? He never replied.

Cheap prices, but awful service if the product is not in stock. Will never use them again.

Try John Lewis - supposed to be good

I've used them for some surround speakers and they were cheaper than anyone else by a long way. No problems with delivery and goods arrived as promised.

I'd agree with the comment about John Lewise though. They DO price match (even with costco on my case) amd they give a 5 year guarantee. Good if they stock what you want !!

Hope that helps,

Dave

Hi there

Bought a Sony Dolby 5.1 decoder for £290 from Empire compared to £550 from everywhere else...checked serial no with Sony and it was pucka (not a grey) arrived the next day as promised....

Agree, bought TV from John Lewis, as said, if they have the stock, then they are a good reliable option!

Good luck

Bought a Sony TV from empire a couple of months ago. Ordered on Wednesday, delivered on Friday. Impressive service, although as this thread shows no retailer will always get it right.

Used Empire for a surround amp - arrived next day as promised, no problems whatsoever, and was cheapest available.
