Kenwood Dual Mags in my doors?
#1
Will a pair of 17mm Kenwood Dual mags fit in the doors of my MY99 turbo, i'm having a bit of audio installed elsewhere in the car as part of a bigger install but the guy in the shop (which I'm a regular at) said that the dual mags despite being 17mm were a lot shallower than the regular speakers, so i guess my question is, is 17mm to wide? if not will the depth be ok, they come also with a seperate tweeter and crossover which will need to be put in the handle and the crossover somewhere else.
I'm booked in for next Saturday so any advice gratefully recieved

17mm will fit on a 5 pence piece
17cm or 6&1/2" have been fitted somewhere on here before think you will need to play around with them though from what i remember.

I think I have these (PSR-70P or something) in my MY00. They did fit in but I needed a spacer despite them being fairly shallow - mounting depth approx 6-7 cm. Instead of using MDF I bought a plastic 16-17cm Corsa speaker adaptor and pulled out the screw holes with a drill and they fitted the Scoob. The main advantage IMHO is the sensitivity such that they sound OKish off the head unit alone, no amp.

I'm gonna be running them from an Infinity RA5002 4 way amp, also hoping to have some 17cm Kappas on the rear shelf, heaven knows how they're gonna fit all this cos there is more work than just screwing them in existing places, I wish them luck, but my biggest hope is that I dont get the car back all butchered!

Don't worry they will do stuff like this all the time - hopefully no butchering will be involved
Just a thought - but the reason the Kenwoods wouldn't fit the standard mountings is that there is a plastic moulding to protect the standard speakers from water in the door which gets in the way. Once this is removed to fit the new speakers, they may be vulnerable to getting wet as the Impreza doors get a lot of water inside. You might want to ask your installers if they think this will be a problem? I bodged some of my own splash guards by cutting up a plant pot but a professional would probably have a smarter solution.

If it helps, I have fitted the 6 1/2" dual mags in the front door of my MY02 - using a 12mm MDF spacer. Believe it is just as easy to fit them into the classic shape front doors. They work very well. If you're struggling, and need some help, mail me.

I'm not installing myself, i'm getting loads of amps and stuff fitted so I'm just handing the car over for a day, its just that the installers probably dont have specific impreza knowledge like you guys have on here, so I'll pass on any advice for which i thank everyone. Hopefully this means I'll get the car back and beable to open the windows!
