trying to go over 400bhp
I have a WRX 2005 but i did an engine and transmission swap on it. Now it has the 2007 Spec-C complete engine (turbo, up pipe, intercooler...) it also has K&N fit in air filter, STI fuel pump, Brembo brakes, STI suspension, the exhaust is a straight pipe with only a catback on it(noisy). i have the sti gearbox with ceramic clutch and the intercooler that i have is a spec-c RA also which holds better. I managed to install water sprayer for the intercooler to keep cool. I was able to derive 340 wheel horsepower which is estimated to 400 engine horsepower. The 400 bhp that i got, were acheived by remapping the STI ECU. I'm using speed density group N. Is it possible to get any more power safely from this setup?? If not, what would be your next step to get more out of it.

What to say! All of you are much better than me in this, Im just a newbie. I would appreciate if you were a bit easier on me with this. Im sorry for the inconvenient English but that's just how much i know. I added two pictures maybe it can help me deliver my point about my car. GAZ2293 the turbo is a VF37

VF37 is not Spec C turbo,Spec C turbo have VF36
I would say you will struggle to make 400bhp on those turbo,I would say on meth you should be making close to 380bhp or maybe little bit more
For more power if you want to run,you will need bigger turbo such as SC42 Twin Scroll,MDX321 Twin scroll,LM420 or Owen Developments Twin scroll
All of them should easily make yours targeted power
What ECU you are running, you are running Spec C ECU or do you running WRX ECU with Group N/Carberry ROM?
Swap for STI ECU will not result in more power, only bigger turbo will help you extract more power or methanol should help you too in yours quest for more power
Thanks,Jura

The mechanic that is working on my car adjusted the wastegate to raise the boost to 1.6 bar. On the dyno test it showed 340 wheel hp. I'm using the STI ECU, remapped.
I was discussing running methanol on my car with the mechanic. He said that he didn't get that much difference on other STIs taking in consideration the compression ratio that subaru engines run. Is it true?

I would suspect those 340whp are bhp or if you want on crank/flywheel,340whp on VF37 is something what I've not seen on normal fuel(pump gas)
Methanol if its mapped correctly will result in higher bhp/whp and you will gain on the torque figure, but you will struggle for sure to make 400bhp/whp on VF36/37
We are gained on 20% meth around 40bhp and 40lb-ft,I'm not saying you will gain such figure on yours, but gain on running meth are proven on numerous cars like on build(forged) or on OE engines
For best results of the meth or any high octane fuel I would suspect you will need to run higher compression(around 9:0.1) and mainly all depends what fuel and what boost you are thinking to run etc
Hope this helps there
Thanks,Jura

A member on Scottish scoobies.net has a hawkeye spec c mapped by AFP 380/380 at 1.5 bar running VF36 he can get it mapped up to 1.7bar in his class for time attack .No mention of any thing added to fuel .No change of injector cc or fpr.Just a front mount intercooler and actuator has not been changed
Vf37 thrust bearing ,Vf36 roller bearing

I was speaking to Bob Rawle about it a year or so back to see how far mine(VF36) could be pushed, With meth over 400lbft is achievable but in standard form the exhaust housing is too restrictive to produce those numbers, Possible porting it might help but still not so sure myself

VF36 or even VF37 exhaust housing has been used by Blouch and ScoobyClinic on their Twin scroll turbo in past, although now they using their own cast housing
What restrict VF36 or VF37 is turbine in my view,I know John@Braveheart developments has made few VF35 billet which has making nice numbers and for £190 is worth the punt

Optimistic in what way? Unsafe you mean? cause I have been running it like this for a while and as you said, for the methanol to give good results I should obtain higher compression 9 or so, but as you well know the 2.0L JDM is only 8, So i haven't used meth yet

Optimistic is the whp figures, unsafe I wouldn't say,but this depends on the more factors than RR graph, but can help at east say if its running lean or rich etc
Just be careful with Group N,as you probably know on Group N map you will loose Knock sensor and running without the knock sensor I wouldn't run my car
People run on their OE engines methanol with nice results,2.0L STI with MDX321T has made 450bhp on V-Power and on 18% meth has made 480bhp,which is great result
Yes for best result you will need to have high 8's CR or early 9's CR,but we run on our 2.1L almost stock CR(think 8:5.1) and car has been awesome off the boost or on the boost plus has make nice power
Really I would at least to try run E85 if its available in yours country or methanol mixture in tank, meth injection will never give you such a results like meth in fuel tank
Thanks,Jura
