Default Oil cooler question

Hi, this has probably been covered already but I can't find an answer on the search.
I've been thinking about an oil cooler kit
I have a 98 wrx which will probably be running approx 350 BHP but with room for more in the future

Do you think an oil cooler is a good idea or a bit overkill on this type of power?
I'd imagine a thermostat controlled one would be a good bet.

Found this http://www.advancedautomotives.com/s...kit-2397-p.asp

Thoughts?

Steve

Oil cooler is only really necessary at high track use as a few have had them leak/catch fire in the past, so really overkill on road car, others may have other opinions but ive not needed one running 460 on the road a few track days then yes i would consider

Absolutely no need for it. When have you ever seen your oil temp gauge go up? Unless you are tracking it hard I doubt you ever will unless there is something wrong with the car.

Relocated my oil filter away from headers and that helps keep temps a little lower

I find in my RA with the shorter gears sitting at 85mph on a motorway my temp rises to 110 so i'm guessing a cooler would be good?

110 is a little high, i only get that temp if a warm day and spirited driving, cruising its about 95

Some engines run hotter than others, so Im told. I have a 400+ forged stroker and Im getting one fitted. Cruising at 70 steady at 94. Anything above that temps rise stedily to well over 100. Thermostatically controlled cooler seems sensible too. Redtec have been recommended. These type of temps are not a huge concern, but I like the idea of stabilising temps.

Hi there

All depends on oil used and what mods are fitted,on some oild coolers without the thermostat you can end with very low temperature around 70,with thermostat you should be OK,but still depends for what car is used,on road car not sure if I would brother,on track cars yes is good investment and I would go with thermostatic controlled oil cooler,we are used Mocal and has been just perfect on our wagon

Thanks,Jura
