Engine knocking m99 uk turbo
Just drove to my old mans. When i arrived I noticed that the was engine knocking on the right hand side. I didn't do any high rev/quick driving as he only lives 5miles away.
The car is my99 uk turbo. Only engine mods are sports cat exhaust and k&n panel filter.
I changed the radiator around a week ago. I followed a bleed procedure when I put the new coolant in. Then drove it a hand full of times and its been fine. Running normal temperature at a times.
Can someone please help with where the noise is coming from? I've done a bit of research and it doesnt sound like the bottom end. (I hope ). Sounds a bit loud for piston slap? I've owend the car for 7 years and not had any piston slap or any engine knocks before.
Would be very grateful for some help.
Thanks

Good news, it's not your bottom end, because if it were when you rev it to circa 2.5 rpm you would hear the knock, but it's definitely not more pronounced as you rev it, it's there all the time.
Bad news, I have no idea what it is, could be a valve.
Who looks after it for you? i'd get it to a specialist asap if I were you.

Thanks for you're quick reply. Yeah, looks like it could be the valve shim that needs adjusting. I either service the car myself or have work done at 3 arches garage in Cardiff.

Has anyone else had this problem with their impreza's?
I'd be very grateful for some information. I'm booked in at my specialist next week. Would be good to get a heads up with the possible cost of rectifying this problem before hand.

Just a quick update. The problem has been resolved. It was a bad connection between the the HT lead and the spark plug. Still cant believe how bad the engine sounded with this minor problem. Very glad that it was an easy fix!
