Default 95 Octane in 2.5l 06 WRX hawkeye ?

Is it ok to run a standard 2.5l WRX 06 Hawkeye on 95 Octane as stated in the owners manual and in the inside of the fuel filler cap ? Obviously I understand that higher octane is better.

I've been told that I could have caused damage having only been using 95 for a few months ?

It will be fine the STI needs the super. The girl in works Hawk always run on ordinary unleaded and 86k and no probs. Obviously it is better tho if you can run her on super

Yeah everything seems fine I am going to start using momentum but was concerned that I have done damage internally ? People have been talking about putting holes in the top of the pistons through detonation, but most of these guys were STI owners

There is probs with ringland and hg on the 2.5 but again its mostly on the STI. You should be fine. How many miles on your hawk?

the 2.5 is a crap engine that fails anyway by running it on 95ron all you are doing is increasing the risk.

amazes me why people try to scrimp with these cars.

It's not about not loving it enough, I was told that in a standard wrx 95 would be fine and the higher octane stuff wouldn't really make a difference !!! What's with the attitude mate ? I asked a simple question and it gets turned into a slating ?

I use 97 ron just seems to hav better kick in town traffic. even though its been mapped on v power. alcatek ecu 340/350 don't even use switchable map, seems happy enough. under boost though I think could cause possible problems.

He is right though. A higher octane fuel minimises the risk of detonation. If a car is mapped for 99 ron, what do you think is going to happen by running 97 ron?

I guess it may feel faster as it is probably now running lean, but much closer to the limit on what the engine is happy on.

Run your WRX on 95 ron if you want but the two biggest killers of an impreza engine are 95 ron fuel and a too thin a grade of oil. Your car, your choice. But those are the facts.

My 05 WRX says on the fuel filler cap - Minimum of 98 ron. Odd how a lot of 2.5 lumps go pop. I wonder why!

Ignore Tommy he's the resident **** hole. Every forum has one, just happens that the one on scabby net is a bigger **** hole than other forums.
To the OP: Are you the guy that was at the tunnel run with your mum?

yes sticking with the v I think. I wouldn't try boosting on 97 as damage is likely. but thank u for above comments. mr bob rawle insists I go with 99 ron.

problem is you newbs dont know what you are talking about, running low octane fuel in these cars can cause very expensive damage.

it causes knocking and this is why 99 ron is recommended, more to the point why would you map a car for 99 ron fuel and then stick in 97??

utter madness

Surely if the car is standard and you are running fuel that the manufacturer recommends you shouldn't have any problems. I always thought only was STi models that needed 98+ ron.
