Default BOV not working?

Before we start, I'm new to petrol turbo engines as well as Imprezas.

I've got a Forge V-T-A BOV, but it doesn't seem to dump from cold? I allow the engine to warm up before giving it some, but it seems like it takes ages before it starts venting.

Is this a normal thing?

You wouldn't have that problem with an STI.

Um thank you? Not really a helpful comment for a newbie is it? I assume you weren't told as a child that if you've nothing nice or helpful to say then keep your trap shut? Ovie not...

And for your next forty points, whip it off, chuck it and buy a recirculating one.

You would be wise to listen to alcazar's advice and ditch the dump valve for a standard recirculating one.

VTA's do absolutely nothing but make a noise and can actually lose you power they are also prone to sticking as it seems you have found.

Just to add my bit. I love how on this thread subject when telling people to bin the VTA and refit a recirculating unit NO ONE explains why this is the best option which to a newbie will help them out.
So here is the main reason why;
If the car is running a Mass Airflow Sensor the use of a VTA unit upsets the fuel metering due to the MAF telling the ECU that X amount of air is being drawn into the engine, so the ECU operates the injectors accordingly to meter the right amount of fuel. When the VTA operates this discharges some of the air from the intake track with a end result being a rich mixture. This results in rough running and poor power, in worse case the excess fuel could get into the oil eventually killing the engine.

But the 'advice' you gave was delivered without any explanation and didn't actually contribute to the problem that I have.

I understand where you are coming, and thankful of someone that has taken the time to explain a little of the technical side. I know the risks of using VTA with a MAF etc. but at the mo I like the noise and TBF changing it out isn't top of my list unless it's broken.

Basically all I'm trying to find out is if BOV's are prone to sticking or something like that.

EDIT: Which pflowers has mentioned, thank you.

I didn't bother to explain my advice for two simple reasons:
1. a search would turn up LOADS of threads explaining why dumpvalves can cause problems, and what problems, and,

2. I knew you were going to say either, "But it's MY car and I want one!, or, "But I like the noise!".

So why bother?

But you seem to have neglected to actually read my original post. My car runs fine with no problem whatsoever. I am asking if the valve itself is problematic. You just see 'BOV problem' and assume that it's another noob that doesn't know how forums, or more importantly the search function, works.

Nope.
Read your post, gave advice as I saw it: GET RID.

Simple enough for you?

I mean, come on: you have a problem with an un-needed aftermarket part. What do you do?
REMOVE IT.
