Default Missfire

Hi all! Just bought my scooby today and it has a wee problem when putting the foot down it has a what I think is a missfire, it begins to splutter when it hits like peak boost and runs a bit ****. Also the 'check engine' light is on. Could this be caused by the maf sensor? Any help on this would be very much appreciated!

I've done the fault code check using the black and green connectors and it is coming up with code 22, knock sensor. Do these symptoms sound likely to be this?

What is it you mean by actually have knock? The car had been sitting for a year, then I put in 2 gallons of normal esso fuel, maybe 95 octane? Maybe just rubbish fuel from sitting?

Oh ****, no wonder, don't EVER DO THAT, tickel it to the nearest shell station and get it full of v power.

Is not on the road just now, I'll drain the fuel out and put through a few gallons of v-power! Would this clear the check engine light? Or will the knock sensor likely be knackered?

It's 100% the fuel dude, the sensor is doing exactly what it should.

Sorry i'm pissing myself.

I've drained out all the old fuel, which was a brown kind of colour, and flushed through more fuel till it was coming out clear. I've then put in 20 litres of shell v-power and taken it for a 20 mile run. It is a lot better than it was, but on full acceleration it is still spluttering a lot. The knock sensor code is still showing up, should I replace the sensor or could there be something worse wrong? Thanks

You may need to run it for a while possibly add a reputable injector cleaner such as STP to clean out the injectors of any crud in the injectors.
I say STP as I have had good results on previous cars with obvious power and economy improvements.
