Default 2000 wagon remote key

Hi I have a 2000 wagon and the remote for the central locking, a seperate single button embossed subaru, which has never worked.
Done the usual, changed the battery etc, even bought a key fob tester and it don't work so bought a replacement.
Is there a wire behind the driver side flitch panel that can be disconnected in order to programme the new fob - or have I got my wires crossed - pardon the pun.

Unfortunately you will need to get it programmed at a Subaru dealers (take in your V5 and ID). It can only be programmed in car via the keypad if you have another working fob. Subaru in Sheffield quoted me £75 for 1/2 hour to program a new fob and key.
From dealers a new fob is £50, a key £120 to £200 dependent on the key required plus the £75 for coding them both to the car.

Programming Remote Keys to the System:
Remote keys can be added or removed to/from the system following the sequence below:
i) Type in to the keypad **
ii) Type in to the keypad the “existing PIN code” then *
iii) Type in to the keypad 91 * “ the number of keys to be used” #
iv) Press the first remote key button until bleep sounds, release and press next key. Continue until all
keys have been taught to the system. Note the maximum number of keys is 4 and all keys required
to operate the system must be taught during this operation - any key not included will no longer
operate the system.
