Does the knocking noise increase with the speed of the engine?

As above, big end knock is worse on deceleration of the engine. I think it's really obvious on idle too.

no it goes quiet and I can only hear it when revs drop bellow maybe 1500 rpm engine isn't shaking about like others with big end failure

the knock is only apparent on idle. done an oil change today and oil was clear no metal fragments or powder. its a serious head scratcher and driving me mad haha

Hopefully it's not the big end, or small for that matter. Maybe check there's no blow outs on the exhaust manifolds and that spark plugs are in properly?

Will check that in the morning when I'm getting the video yeah hopefully not big or small end mate really love the car and would be a shame cos the engine apart from this knock is very strong and car has been looked after

Little update when I press on the left hand timing belt cover the noise gets louder. Could it maybe be the tensioner and the timing has jumped a few teeth ?

Ahhh, right. I saw a video about the tensioner causing a knock. I'll find it and post a link.

That sounds exactly the same mate. Going to rip the timing belt covers of tomorrow and see if that is the culprit fingers crossed

Had a "mechanic" LOOK!!! At it without even opening the bonnet laughed at me and said bottom end. Getting pissed off telling these so called mechanics "I've got a subaru and it's making a slight knocking sound" and getting laughed at and told bottom end. Going to see the guys G.i Motorsport and see what they say been told they're the best for scooby work hopefully don't get laughed at from them
