Steering wheel shaking
I have a bad problem with the steering wheel shaking when I get to 60mph and the fast I go the worse it gets and when driving around town at normal speeds the car just feels very disconnected. I thought it could of possibly been the wheels that were unbalanced, so got them checked yesterday and all are fine.
Any suggestions guys? as I need this sorted ASAP.
Thanks
Matt.

I only picked the car up on Friday, and noticed it on the way home as soon as I got on the motorway, when I test drove the car there was nowhere to get up to motorway speeds so didn't notice the problem.

Bad break disc? One may be warped and catching in a seized caliper?? Mine felt a bit unbalance when I got it, it had been sitting 2 years and all the calipers were seized in one way or another. I repaired all that and everything is fine now.

I would say your wheels need balancing mate as normally if they are out of balance you don't feel anything at low speeds but steering wheel will shake bad above 60mph

If I was you I would get them checked your self at a good tyre centre as they might not of been done properly or you could have lost a wheel weight, also make sure you haven't got a buckled wheel

Thanks for all the replays, I will get the wheels checked again in the week to make sure they are not buckled in any way and try again. Failing that, it is booked in with surrey Subaru specialists (Dan) to have some other work carried out in 2 weeks, so will get him to investergate the problem.

No I haven't had a chance yet Dave, I will try and jack the car up later and check for any play.

had this on mine finally got it solved!!
1st checked everything was tight under the bonnet, battery etc
2nd my tracking was out on the front
3rd, my front tyres looked fine! - But the tracking was out which screwed them on the inside, so switch the rears to the front

sounds very much like a buckled wheel. A car I bought years ago had buckled fronts. The salesman advised me not to go on the motoway as the car was low on fuel when i test drove it. Clearly knew the car had the issue. Despite calling him as soon as I got home after a visit to the tyre shop, surprisingly he said the wheels were fine when i bought the car. Was fuming to say the least. Hope it's something simple for u to fix!

Have you looked at the brakes too? I've had a shaky steering wheel on a couple of cars and it's always because of the caliper sticking, sending vibrations through the steering column.
