Default 2.1 stroker running in

Picked up my car today after having a 2.1 built. The cars been run for the 1st 50 miles and already had its 1st oil and filter change. After getting the car home it's clocked nearly 500 miles so just about ready for its next filter and oil change. I was told to use 15w-40 mineral but having trouble finding a decent 1, so wondering if the millers cro 10w-40 running in oil would be ok to use? Any advice appreciated. Cheers

What oil was in it for the first 50 miles? I'd also be interested in what oil's to use for the running in process.

Pretty sure he said it was 15w-40. May have to get same again and run that for another 500 before switching to semi synthetic and running to around 5k

Default Running a engine in.

I used the millers running in oil for 100 miles, then dropped it changed filter and put in my cfs 10/60 millers.
My personal advice with running a engine is to not be worried about making it work from day 1. Be sensible and dont go bouncing it off the limiter but be sure to give it varying load/revs otherwise ull end up with a engine that wont make good power or could smoke slightly.
From my experience a engine that been made to work from day 1 will be a gud un!!

Whoever built that engine should have given you a running in programme, if they haven't call them up and ask for one!

As above. Put in what ever the engine builder told you to.

When you say making it work could you be more specific please? As you say obviously use common sense but how much throttle is enough and what about boost?

Running in for 1000's of miles is to much for me. I considered mine run in after 100 miles!!
Keep the boost and revs down to start and then gradually increase both/load as the miles increase.
Use the torque/boost rather than very high revs as this will help the rings bed in!
I've seen engines run in as per the book by very well known engine builders only for them never to make predicted power or to smoke slightly.
I get my millers through my local agent.
Hope this helps.
Tim.

I was advised on my 2.5 forged build. 10w 50 semi for 1500 miles. Drive on 0.5 bar of boost often but keep under 4000rpm for the first 500 miles. Gradually increase revs to 6000 rpm over the next 1000 miles. Then change oil to 10w 50 fully. I had a running in map installed to help put the engine under load without excessive revs, and limit the boost.

When I bought my bug Subaru said run in for 1000 miles at revs no higher than 4000 then oil and filter change. I did this in a week, my car currently is on 108K miles without rebuild and pushing out 440 bhp. The oils used have been mobile one whilst being dealer serviced did a couple of services still using mobile one then changed to millers fully syn 10w-60 currently.

When I had my 2.1 built by engine tuner they said use "cheap minimal oil" ,,, so I rang and asked if halfords minimal oil is ok ,,, they said that is fine ,,, it ran in great and is now 450bhp and has been running that for around 3-4 years now

Hi Toyney, yes you should stick to a 15/40w mineral oil ideally for the first 1000 miles.
We recommend a moderate driving style allowing 4500rpm and a max of .5 bar for this period but with a work it if it needs to outlook on it. IE if your climbing a hill climb it, don't walk it
We have our reasons for this method based on many years of experience building Subaru engines.
