you need to get the car up in the air really to get enough leverage on it and maybe heat it up.

personally id take it to a garage and chuck em a tenner just to get it undone.

Ask your friendly garage if you can borrow the ramp for 10 mins =£10
Do it yourself rather than some Butty fingered Hack have his way
It's your learning curve aswell

Ditto, saves you buying the special spanner/socket as well.

How many times are you going to do this job? Probably once?
Personally, I would stick with TT's advice mate.

Bought an open sided socket to do this job on my old WRX.
Took 30 minutes using a trolley jack, axel stands and a breaker bar with some WD40 and that was on a car that was 9 years old.

SORTED.... well nearly

Bought a Draper 02 sensor socket for a whole £7 from the motor factors, bit of penitrating spray, and it cracked of first go, well happy.

Here ends the happy time, opened the sensor from its packaging and its the wrong ****ing one.....

4" too short and the wrong plug on the end. Quick phone call to the supplier and he confirmed the one I have is for my car, challenged a little further and it seems there is an error in their parts catalogue, the one I need has now been ordered and should be with me thursday....

I will get it done by the weekend

Can an O2 sensor been cleaned

Before refitting my old one last night I blew it through with air and a load of whitish dust puffed out.

To day the symptoms that drew me to change it have all gone

Should I still replace ???? My gut feeling says yes

Yes mate. You can give it a clean but symptoms are likely to return, far easier to just replace.

be interesting to see how much fuel i was unnecessarily burning, or if it was just running lean.

Most noticeable is now when I do a 3 point turn on the drive I don't now get a whiff of exhaust fume into the cabin on reversing through my own air
