6 previous owners ! Should I avoid ?
I'm going to look at a 05 Hawkeye STI with 44k miles at the weekend. It looks gorgeous, straight and genuine from the pics but has had 6 previous owners ! I'd be the 7th it has a full book of service stamps and the cambelt has been done, anyone have any words of advice ?
Theres not alot of the lighter tax ones kicking about, its not un common for imprezas to have a few owners, go buy condition rather than owners, sayin that im the 2nd owner of my 07 hawk, if its straight genuine car be a good buy, just research the car first as there is a few common problems with the ej257
Wouldn't worry about it, cars like this do move around alot, pretty much people buy them thinking they can afford them, but when then numbers just keep adding up and coming they decide to jump ship
Totally disagree with the fact that number of owners doesn't matter. Personally I'm not going to buy a car that's had 6 owners thrash the life out of it in the past, sure the service book might all be stamped up, but I don't buy the fact that a lot of people don't realize how much these cars cost to run before they buy them. It's just my opinion, good luck with your search mate.
I'd think about when you want to sell it on with that meny owners you will struggle.
Wouldn't touch it mate. It may have low miles and is proberly very tidy but you can't take away how meny owners its had.

The car is 8 years old. I don't think that is many for the type of car it is. I tend to change every 6 - 12 months.
but the first couple of months I have a car I fix all the issues and clean it every other day. So you may find its been well looked after. There is bound to be a couple of owners who have thrashed it. But I don't think you will find an impreza that hasn't been. Isn't that the main reason people buy them?

I'm with Matt23 on this one. 6 owners in 8 years is quite a few. That's 6 different driving styles, some may have driven it nicely but others may have caned it all the way.
Imagine 2 hawkeye sti's, both identical in every way, one had 6 owners the other say 2. Which you would buy? I know which one I would - the 2 owner one. If your wondering if its too many owners, so will the next person you sell it onto...
I have a 2005 impreza with just one previous owner before me.

I have a 2003 wrx. It has had 9 owners and 55000 miles
it is one of the tidiest ones I looked at. It runs better than my old 55 reg wrx with 3 owners
admittedly its not ideal for selling on, but It was a very strong bargaining tool when I came to the price
when I sell it tho I fully expect the same from the buyer.
I think you need to judge the car by condition and history mainly.

It's a 2.5 though. Do you really want to take the risk (this thread goes for the earlier cars too):

my last JDM hawk had 6 owners and it was mint. Its just been sold again to a trader. The guy that bought it from me was out of his depth to be honest and I think that happens a lot.
My current blob aka cocky blob has had 7 owners and its also in great condition albiet I've changed a lot since owning it.
How many oners jnust means you need to double check its condition and paperwork. Nothing to worry about.
p.s I know how much the hawk JDM sold for which is now listed for 10.5k !!!!

Ah, all you need to consider is its condition then. Look hard underneath for rust, especially at the front around the subframe which is well hidden by the plastic undertrays.
It will probably be fine though.

You will get people who whinge about mileage and number of owners as they might be in better economical situations. Having said that, the reason to avoid any Impreza Turbo is if you think about money a lot.
Now, my car, like yours has 7 owners. It is a UK Turbo 2000. It no only has stamps, but more importantly receipts for everything including light bulbs. I called the last garage to do he cam belt and they verified that the work was indeed done. That satisfied me.
Rather than stamps, look for receipts and ensure the necessary work has been done. Look for the usual suspects for impreza. If your soul is satisfied, go fort and enjoy the car.
Mine will be up for sale in January when my second child is born to make way for an E Class, with the plan to turn my Honda Civic into a toy.

The amount of owners is irrelevant, as long as the car is tidy, drives nice and has good history thats all that matters, people saying not to but it due to amount of owners are nutters mate, i bet if it went up for breaking they wouldnt question the amount of owners before they decided to buy engine or box etc they would question service history and how well the engine ran. Take the car on face value mate.
