Part of me likes the idea of getting a bl00dy beast of an engine built, not immediately (kinda expensive) but as a long-term project with little bits at a time...

My current thinking is something like this:-

STi Block (closed deck?) + ported and polished heads.
JUN Custom Kit - 2.2 Stroker consisting of JUN Pistons, Crank and Conrods.
JUN camshaft kit with cams, valve springs and titanium retainers.
JUN lightened and balanced flywheel.
AP clutch.
VF22 / VF23 Turbo
HKS Racing Suction Kit.
HKS FMIC.
Oil Cooler.
Uprated fuel pump and injectors.
Power Engineering Equal Length headers - polished etc.
ECU - Motec M48, M880, GEMS, Link?
ERL Water Injection Kit.
Uprated breather system.

I think that little lot would be quite nice

So...
What do you think ???
Would you change/add anything??
What would your ultimate scooby engine be and do you know of any other manufacturers of uprated engine internals?
Where can an STi donor engine be found and roughly what sort of money?

Matt

Sounds not bad.

At that level though, I would ditch the VF22 and go for a hybrid like an MD195 / 254 etc?

Don't need all that stuff for a VF22.

First, I think you need to decide on what you want to achieve, and your budget, and then work out the best route.

I agree with Alan, the stock VF turbos, would be a waste of time, and as a minimum, you'd need a hybrid, but ideally, a Garrett, or one of the Jap turbo kits.

You've also got to think about the gearbox, because the stock box wouldn't last two min's, neither would a standard AP clutch.

Whilst JUN make some very good products, they are very expensive, and the same results can be achieved for far less.

Mark.

Dont mean to interrupt.. but

Which version of the STI engine are you thinking of building on i.e which year. I gather the starting point is a stock 300bhp version 3.
What is a closed deck block?

how much would all this cost?

Mark - so who else would you recommend for bits and bobs?

Oh, I almost forgot - lightened pulleys on that list

Hi Matt,I believe Scoobysport can source second hand STI engines
if you are serious
PS well pleased with your old Prodrive BB, the car is quiet around town but makes a nice roar when I plant my right foot.
Any more mods to your RB5?
Cheers, John

Have a look at this website
http://www.pms.net.au/
and look for the 2.5 liter engine block.
Note the 2.5 block is approx. 5500 Euro.

Hmmm, I think if Matt is "serious", he won't be looking for an STi engine, but then his list gives a good idea of which direction he wants to go,

thanks for the thoughts guys - re: my seriousness...well, I like the idea of having a little project really. I realise that it will be _expensive_ but I'm in no rush and am quite willing to do it bit-by-bit.

Where would you start?

A good place to pick up a second hand STI engine is www.importcarparts.co.uk and they will even fit it for you. Pretty cheap too.
