cambelt and changing pulleys help please
hi the car is an impreza 2003 sti
the cam cover is broke so have got a replacement one
the camblet will be changed but iv noticed to change the cover a couple of pulleys need removing
i think they are the variable valve timing (not sure of the exact name)
the question is whats best way to remove these? do i need to mark them up and if they are put on in a diff position will this **** everything up?
how do they come off?
i hope you can help with the limited info
cheers, nick

Surely you're talking about the camshaft pulleys? I understand they are hard to get of without there special Subaru tool which keeps them still. It may be possible to get a flat spanner onto the cam itself. Remember reading something on this forum a couple of weeks ago.

Yep you'll need to find some way of locking the camshaft sprockets, I wouldn't recommend just trusting the cambelt to stop them turning if you're heaving on them with a bar! Safest way would be to use an impact gun to remove the bolts, that way you can pretty much hold them with your hand to stop them turning.
Standard cambelt rules apply though, make sure all the timing marks are lined up before you take the belt off. That way you'll also know you've got the cam sprockets back on right, but I think they're on a woodruff key so will only go on one way anyway
This is the guide everyone recommends if its your first cambelt:
