Go for the STI Type R as the WRX version doesn't come with any of the goodies (no DCCD,no intercooler water spray etc)although I think it does comes with ABS.

Post a link to the sale if you can.

I bought my STI Type R for the same amount a few years ago so I would still go for a STI version myself.

Well the engine and gearbox are ok but it does depend on how well the car has been looked after imo.

1993-1998 cars either need a daughterboard or replacement ecu whereas 99-00 cars can have their standard ecus remapped via Ecutek (exactly the same whether you buy a STI or WRX)

http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/

The above link shows you what this mapper will charge you ,they are loads of other mappers who may charge you more or less.

It can be expensive but speak to mappers on here and get tell them what you want and they can suggest various routes into tuning whatever Impreza you buy.

Never mind all this 2 door malarkey, get yourself a type ra!
I'm only kidding mate it's horses for courses.
One thing you do need to do, cost aside, take your time. There really ain't that many good classics out there. Make sure you shop around

Would you say the type ra is better ?
I'm after performance and holding its value

I don't think performance wise there is anything in it. The extra doors are handy, saying that I never carry passengers. Looks wise some prefer the 2doors, personally I love the "bare" look of the ra with no side skirts or body kit.

If you like your toys generally speaking the type r's are better equipped. My ra had no electrics or air con. Some on the other hand have the toys.

It's just a matter of opinion really.
