overheating problem
My car is more or less ready for its mot now after fitting my new engine but it seems to keep over heating i havent realy driven it far but the temp goes rite the way up to the red... If i leave the cap of and let it tick over it doesnt seem to over heat... Im not to sure on how you bleed them up but iv topped the water up left the cap off and let it run until fans kick in then put the cap back on? Drove it for roughly 2minutes and bump the temps rite up in the red again can anyone help me out im at the end of my teather with it now its cost me a fortune?? Cheers

Jeff's how to from yesterday, Jack.
New thermostat in? My car cooked itself a while back, the thermostat was fecked, replace and fine ever since.
Are your fans working? What's the radiator like?
Drop the coolant, you need to anyway, and whilst you're at it flush the rad through with a hose pipe to get any crap out. Hose pipe in the to rad hole should be enough, if not a lot of water is coming out it's probably time for a new one.
Pull the rear pipe off the header tank, (NOT the plastic overflow bottle), the one that sits on top of the engine. Stuff a funnel down it and fill SLOWLY, not allowing it to gulp. Mine took over 20 minutes.
Once water appears in the header tank, fill to the brim, replace pipe, and start engine, leaving the cap off. Mop up or top up as needed until the fans kick in, then put cap on and go for a ride round the block...don't thrash it.
On return, let it cool, check level in header tank, topping up as necessary.
That's it.

update i have tryed again to refill the system and once again it over heated i lifted the bonnet str8 away and there was a small mist of water firing out from where the header seals :/ so i have just stripped it and resealed it all.....also i swaped the return pipe around with the one that comes from the coolant bottle and over the rad to get a better look at the water coming back to the header i put the cap on (still swapped) and it started to drip water from the cap would this be normal because of me switching the pipes around or should that not leak anything? could this be my problem? cheers guys
