overheating problem

Default overheating problem

My car is more or less ready for its mot now after fitting my new engine but it seems to keep over heating i havent realy driven it far but the temp goes rite the way up to the red... If i leave the cap of and let it tick over it doesnt seem to over heat... Im not to sure on how you bleed them up but iv topped the water up left the cap off and let it run until fans kick in then put the cap back on? Drove it for roughly 2minutes and bump the temps rite up in the red again can anyone help me out im at the end of my teather with it now its cost me a fortune?? Cheers

YOU CANNOT BLEED THE SUBARU ENGINE!

You need to drain it, then do a search for how to refill, on here. If done properly, it will be fine. Just hop[e the overheating hasn't already knackered the new headgaskets.

I posted a how to yesterday.

Thanks for the reply mate + i hope not lol everytime iv noticed it shoot up iv turned it str8 off... Cant seem to find the thread on how to refill mate? Im on my phhone so its not much good

New thermostat in? My car cooked itself a while back, the thermostat was fecked, replace and fine ever since.

Are your fans working? What's the radiator like?

Drop the coolant, you need to anyway, and whilst you're at it flush the rad through with a hose pipe to get any crap out. Hose pipe in the to rad hole should be enough, if not a lot of water is coming out it's probably time for a new one.

I replaced the thermostat yesterday mate not sure if i put the offset the right wat up tho :/ its got an alloy rad on it wich isnt very old so that shud bé fine....... Il follow them instructions tomoro on how to refill and see how i get on with that cheers mate

Stupid question but u do mean the pipe underneithe the header tank dont u?

Tryed it cant seem to do it .. It gulped twice will that bé why it still overheats? Also is there a way of draining the system without takeing thermostat out?

The car has a metal header tank on top of the engine? It's the rearmost pipe, NOT the one underneath.

It must NOT gulp, that's air going in.

You can drain it by removing the bottom hose.

update i have tryed again to refill the system and once again it over heated i lifted the bonnet str8 away and there was a small mist of water firing out from where the header seals :/ so i have just stripped it and resealed it all.....also i swaped the return pipe around with the one that comes from the coolant bottle and over the rad to get a better look at the water coming back to the header i put the cap on (still swapped) and it started to drip water from the cap would this be normal because of me switching the pipes around or should that not leak anything? could this be my problem? cheers guys
