Default rev counter reading?

What does an impreza rev counter read when ignition is on but engine is off. Mine reads 800 - 850 ish, is this right?

In a word no. Mine reads 500 when warm and idling (2.0 turbo) and obviously reads 0 when off.

Zero when off, 800 or so idling.

I see. Just that mine idles at 1550 ish n cant seem to get it down no matter what i do. I started to think i have a dodgey rev counter, or at least it could be wrongly fitted. I noticed today that when i turn the ignition on but no start the engine, the counter goes up to 850 ish. So if i take that 850 off im running at 700 idle. About right id say! So safe to say my counter is wrong? N that it probably got installed wrong when the lockwood dials were put in?

Lockwood dials are a gift from the devil.
They cause loads of problems.
